EPS boxes with drain holes: for fish and seafood

EPS boxes for fish have drain holes in the base as standard, so meltwater from ice and gel packs can escape. This matters for transporting fish cleanly and hygienically, and has been standard in seafood distribution for decades.

Why drain holes?

Fish loses moisture and melting ice produces water. Without drain holes this collects in the box and the fish soaks in its own liquid, which brings a hygiene risk and loss of quality. Drain holes solve this.

Combine with absorbent mats

For extra hygiene, combine EPS with drain holes and absorbent mats in the base. The mats absorb meltwater, and the drain holes let any excess run away.

Frequently asked questions

For which products is EPS with drainage holes used?
Fish, crustaceans and shellfish, and all products with melting ice or released moisture.
For meat?
Use EPS without drain holes for meat. Meat in sealed packaging, optionally with an absorbent pad underneath.
Number of leak holes?
Standard 4 to 6 holes in the base. Quantity depends on box size and the expected amount of meltwater.
